Birthrights’ Training Manager, Farah Lodhi, shares her reflections from our Community Conversation in collaboration with Leeds Involving People.

About Leeds Involving People
Leeds Involving People (LIP) is a long-established Leeds-based organisation that supports people to share their lived experience and influence decisions about health, care and wider services.
We work with a wide range of communities across the city, including people from racially minoritised communities, Deaf and disabled people, and people with lived experience of health inequalities. LIP supports several community networks and forums in Leeds and has a strong track record of creating safe, inclusive spaces where people feel confident to share their experiences. We are known locally for our trauma-informed, accessible approach and for ensuring community voices are listened to and taken seriously by decision-makers.
Birthrights’ Training Manager, Farah Lodhi, shared her reflections from our Leeds community conversation co-produced with LIP:
The community conversation in Leeds brought together a diverse group of people to reflect on how human rights are experienced and understood in maternity care.
The conversations flowed naturally, with people openly sharing their thoughts, experiences, and perspectives.

What really stood out was the strength and resilience within the Leeds community — a community that values tolerance, integration, and genuinely listening to and appreciating different opinions.
They give people the chance to hear each other, speak openly about human rights in maternity care, and recognise how powerful information can be in helping people advocate for themselves and for each other.
