Support us and protect human rights during pregnancy and childbirth
Help us put human rights at the heart of maternity care.
Our information and advice helps women and birthing people feel heard, respected, and more in control of their care, with more confidence to make informed choices.
We train health care professionals to understand their human rights responsibilities and how this leads to better communication with the people they care for.
We hold institutions to account and use the law to stop unlawful policies and practices. We challenge sweeping, blanket policies that do not leave room for rights-based care.
We work with communities, listening to people’s experiences to find out more about how the maternity system can be changed to uphold human rights.
We campaign for positive change in national policy, practice and systems. Our research, evidence and advocacy amplify the voices of people who are often marginalised and ignored.
What people have said about us:
I felt empowered and ready to stand up for the birth I deserve.
I couldn’t be in this place without Birthrights UK and without you helping and advising me. As for the website it’s out of this world with information!
Excellent session—very useful, and something that should be offered to all midwives and health professionals working in maternity services.
Ways to give
Between 600,000-700,000 people give birth within the UK every year. Currently, over a third of them would consider their births to be ‘traumatic’.
Our maternity services are in crisis. Demand for Birthrights support has never been greater.
We need your help.
